I have found the most proficient way of communicating with my contact is in person/phone. I tried email/fax in the beginning, but both of these resulted in a non-reply. Usually, I send things such as examples and content material to them via e-mail, then I confirm with a phone call a few days later. This has proved to be the best way of accomplishing communication between us. I think that what I did wrong in the beginning was to wait for her response. Now I use a more proactive way of obtaining goals.

I have just noticed this post is missing. My plan is to look on the word document I believe I forgot to post it. Well here is the space that I will edit later

This post is about the feedback that I have received from my group members. There were some formatting issues that were brought up. I’m not that surprised by that because looking back on it – it was a little rough looking. Plus most of the time my site map was not available on line. Plus I think it was very easy to tell that I am a newbie with this.

In all, I think my group members did really well at letting me know my problems and crushing my ego while doing it.

Project is Coming along

March 21, 2008

Well, I noticed that I have to call my contact after I send her information. I anticipated this a little bit, because I know all the things she does for the center. So I sent her two different wire-frames and she informed of the one she liked best and added some other things she wants on the website. Also, I have worked on my portfolio site as I learn more about the front-page program. It’s getting a little frustrating, but I think i know where my problems are. It seems I am always putting things on the server and I think that may be part of the problem.

It took a while, but I finally was able to reach someone. I will be doing the East Tenth United Methodist Church and Youth Center for my project. I found out that the email address that I had was wrong and that they may not have received my fax. But finally, I did reach a contact and we talked about the site and the particulars

Computers are not my friend

February 25, 2008

So, I am late posting my responses and unable to take my test because of technical difficulties. I should have known that if my phone lines were having static then there is a good chance that it might mess with my internet. I foolishly thought that since it isn’t dial-up, I was ok. Well, I’ll share my blame in waiting to the kids went to sleep before i turned on the the computer for the day. that’s ok, it was a lesson learned. And on a good note.. today was my mom’s last day of chemo. yea!

So far in this class, I have learned a whole lot more than just writing. I’ve learned not to just consider colors or images that I like, but also the interests of my audience. Also, my plan was to quickly learn FrontPage (mistake 1) and then making a site would be glorified cut and paste (mistake 2).  I now know how wrong I was and I think it has helped me when I think that other people aren’t grasping things fast enough. This class has served me a couple dishes of humble pie, but my goal is to use what I’ve learned and grow more with it. Also, i now have more respect for those webmaster people that are named at the bottom of webpages.

My audience is those who are interested in elements of my write for the web class and those who want information about me and my future project site. The goal of the site is to display my new webpage skills, to analyze why I picked certain elements and to display project site. I think, maybe, I need to make my header picture smaller and fill-in other parts of my site .I need to put more information on why I did certain aspects of my site.

I need to work on the pictures more. I don’t know how to line it up to the right. Also, the site looks a little dead; I wanted calm, but it isn’t. it doesn’t appear active. The links – I am having a large problem with, at first, they were not showing. I fixed that, but now the pages they link to are now missing.

In some ways i think the reading helps by explaining what the different parts of a website are. I am a newbie and definitions help, but when it comes to doing it on my own; I am very lost .I know that learning the software is going to slow me down a bit and possibly have bad results. Usually when I learn something new< i like to observe ir from various ways to find the best way for me.

I have some experience with computers; I’m on my computer at home all the time and for work. I like to read blogs and forums. I know some about web design. Just some little things…like cut and paste, bolding, adding a link, stuff like that. The only thing I’m nervous about is the project work, because I have not done that before. The resources that are available to us look really complete, so even if I have a little trouble I think I can handle it. A valuable asset for me is that I’m persistent, especially when it is new to me; I’ll make mistakes and they help me to figure out the process better.
